Bard Song

Wrote this once listening to the song "Bard Song" performed by Van Canto.

  • Three men I see, and one I don't, are riding in a small boat. The boat has a sail, but it is pulled up and tied off on the mast.
  • One of the men is hanging off the main mast in a posture reminiscent of the movie Singin' in the Rain.
  • At least the man on the mast is doing just that—singing with a bellowing voice into a storm. They've just left shore tonight and are heading home. The other three may be singing with him, but he leads the song. His hair whips in the torrent. Dark clouds blot the light from the sky—far off lightning is the only illumination. I suspect it is night but cannot see.
  • The other men on deck ARE singing, and they are also pulling ropes, going about the business of keeping the ship upright amid the waves.
  • The man on the mast wears a knee-length coat unbuttoned and caught up in the winds. It may be dark blue normally, but the rain has it looking pure black. The deck hands, as the other men seem to be, are stripped to the waist and barefoot.
